As part of my ongoing collaboration with Just for Dogs Rescue in Brailsford, I visit from time

to time to photograph their rescue dogs. These studio-quality images are designed to

showcase the dogs in a way that hopefully increases their chances of finding forever homes.

This partnership holds a special place in my heart. When I started focusing on pet

photography and launched my pop-up studio several years ago, I made it my personal

mission to support a dog charity by giving my time and skills to help. I reached out to

several dog charities in the area, but it was Just for Dogs who saw the potential of my work

and welcomed the collaboration.

It wasn’t as easy as I thought at the beginning. I witnessed upsetting scenes—terrified dogs

arriving on their first day, not understanding what was happening to them. It was heart-

wrenching to see the fear in their eyes. But my feelings rapidly changed when I saw the pure

love, affection, and determination that everyone at Just for Dogs gave unconditionally. Their

unwavering commitment to welcoming and caring for these lost souls transformed the

situation entirely.

I realised then that these weren’t upsetting scenes—they were scenes of hope. These were

the lucky ones. They had made it to a place where they would be loved, cared for, and given

a chance at a new life.

### Capturing the Spirit of the Season

Yesterday, I returned to meet Margaret and her team for a festive-themed photoshoot.

While the focus was on bringing out the dogs’ charm, the session was also a chance to reflect

on how far many of these animals have come. Some dogs were eager to pose, while others

needed a little extra time and patience—but all of them shone in their own way.

Photographing rescue dogs is never without its challenges, but it’s always worth the effort.

Margaret and her team create an environment filled with care and compassion, ensuring

that every dog feels safe and valued. That atmosphere makes all the difference, not just for

the dogs but for everyone who visits.
