A photoshoot with your furry friend can be an unforgettable experience, filled with joy and adorable moments. To make sure everything goes smoothly and you get those perfect shots, here are some tips on how to prepare your dog for a successful location shoot with me.
1. Choose the Right Location
Before the big day, we’ll agree on a location that suits your dog’s personality and energy levels. Whether it’s a park, a field, or an urban setting, it’s important to pick a spot where your dog will feel comfortable and happy.
For active dogs: Open spaces like parks or beaches allow them to move freely and let their playful side show.
For calmer dogs: A quieter location with less foot traffic may be best to avoid distractions.
2. Give Your Dog Plenty of Exercise
A tired dog is a relaxed dog! Before the photoshoot, make sure your dog gets some exercise. Whether it’s a walk or a game of fetch, this will help burn off excess energy and ensure they’re more cooperative during the session.
3. Pack Their Favorite Treats and Toys
Bringing your dog’s favorite treats or toys is a great way to capture their attention during the shoot. Treats are perfect for rewarding good behavior and encouraging them to pose. A favorite toy can also serve as a prop or a way to highlight their playful side.
Top Tip: Bring squeaky toys! They’re great for getting those ears-up, alert expressions.
4. Practice Basic Commands
While I love candid moments, having your dog respond to basic commands like “sit,” “stay,” and “come” will make the photoshoot smoother. Practice these commands in different environments before the shoot to get your dog used to following them outside the house.
5. Grooming and Appearance
Your dog should feel and look their best for the camera. Give them a good brush before the session, especially if they have a longer coat. If your dog gets a bit messy during playtime, pack some wet wipes or a towel to clean them up before the photoshoot.Optional: If your dog is comfortable with it, you can even bring fun accessories like bandanas or bow ties for an extra special touch!
6. Keep Calm and Have Fun
Dogs are sensitive to our emotions, so staying calm and positive will help keep them relaxed. If your dog gets distracted or isn’t following directions right away, don’t worry! We’ll take our time to make sure both you and your dog have a stress-free experience. My goal is to capture the unique bond you share with your furry friend, and that means letting them be themselves.
7. Hydrate and Rest
If the shoot is outdoors, especially on warmer days, bring some water to keep your dog hydrated. Short breaks during the session will help them stay cool and comfortable.
