A studio photoshoot with your dog is a great way to capture their unique personality in a controlled, intimate setting. My studio is located right in my home, and we’ll ensure that both you and your dog feel as comfortable as possible throughout the session. Here’s how you can prepare your furry friend for the best experience.
Welcome to My Home Studio!
The studio is a converted garage located at my home, and it’s a cozy space set up specifically for capturing beautiful moments. One thing to note is that the studio doesn’t have heating, so it can get chilly, especially during colder months. You might want to bring a blanket or coat for your dog to keep them warm between shots. You’re also welcome to dress your dog in cute accessories like bandanas or jackets to add personality while ensuring their comfort.
You’ll also meet my friendly Cockerpoo, Sabi, who shares the home. She’s sweet and welcoming, and since this is her space, I’ll make sure your dog feels equally at ease.
2. All Dogs and Responsible Owners Are Welcome!
We welcome all dogs and responsible owners, including those with nervous or reactive dogs, and larger breeds like XL Bullies. We understand that some dogs may need a little more time to adjust to new environments, and we’re happy to take things slow to make sure they’re comfortable. While we prefer well-behaved dogs, we all know that every dog can be a little naughty sometimes, and that’s okay! We’ll work together to ensure your dog has a positive experience.
3. Studio Size and Dog Limit
Due to the size of the studio, we currently limit studio sessions to 4 dogs. If you have multiple dogs or specific requirements, feel free to let me know beforehand so we can make sure the session runs smoothly.
4. Think About Backdrops and Settings
To make your photoshoot truly personal, think about what kind of backdrops or settings you’d like. Whether you prefer a minimalist, modern look or something fun and colorful, I’m happy to accommodate your vision! Feel free to leave your ideas in the comments or send me images of styles or setups you like before the session. This way, we can agree on the theme and have everything ready for your shoot.
5. Familiarize Your Dog with the Space
Since the studio is part of my home, your dog will be entering a new environment. Let them explore a bit before we begin the shoot. This helps them settle in and get used to the surroundings. If your dog is sociable, they might even enjoy meeting Sabi!
6. Prepare for the Studio Environment
Unlike an outdoor shoot, the studio offers a controlled environment with lighting and backdrops. This can be new for some dogs, so bringing items they are familiar with can help them feel more at ease. Consider packing:
- Their favorite toys
- A blanket from home
- Treats to reward good behavior
These items will not only help your dog relax but can also be used as props during the shoot.
7. Practice Commands
It’s helpful if your dog knows basic commands like “sit,” “stay,” and “down,” as these will help me capture the perfect shot. Practice these at home before the shoot to help them respond to commands in a new environment.
8. Grooming and Touch-Ups
Before the session, give your dog a little grooming—whether that’s a full groom or a simple brush to keep their coat looking clean. If you want your dog looking extra sharp, you can also bring grooming supplies to do touch-ups during the session.
Tip: Wipe their eyes and nose before the shoot to avoid any small distractions in the photos.
9. Stay Calm and Enjoy the Experience
Your dog takes cues from you, so staying calm and relaxed will help them feel more at ease. Don’t worry if your dog doesn’t sit still right away—we’ll take our time, and I’ll work to capture candid, natural moments of your dog being themselves.
10. Hydration and Comfort Breaks
Water is always on hand to keep your dog hydrated and comfortable. Since the studio is a relaxed environment, we can take breaks as needed to make sure your dog is comfortable and happy throughout the session.
