Introduction
Since I last shared how I’ve been transforming my double garage into a multifunctional photography studio and creative workspace, things have moved quickly. With the festive season upon us, and having already hosted several Christmas mini sessions, the demands on the space have only grown. Here’s what’s new, what’s been tweaked, and the challenges keeping me on my toes.
Christmas Mini Sessions Take the Spotlight
At the moment, it’s all about Christmas in the studio. There’s a festive backdrop featuring a red car, Santa’s sleigh, and even a red Doggy Air Force sit-in plane. Thanks to the magnetic system I use for backdrops, swapping sets in and out is quick and straightforward—essential for keeping sessions flowing smoothly while making the most of every square inch.
Adapting the Workspace
Beyond photoshoots, the workspace side of things has been just as busy. I’ve been working on new 3D printing projects and creating props to fit the Christmas theme. Those custom touches make all the difference for clients, and having this dual-purpose setup keeps me flexible. It’s a constant balancing act, but the results speak for themselves.
Enhancing Services with a Dual-Purpose Setup
Running a dual-purpose studio allows me to offer a wide range of services, from affordable dog photography to specialised Christmas photoshoot packages. Each session is designed to capture memorable moments, whether it’s a festive family and pet portrait or a unique setup like my red Doggy Air Force sit-in plane. By adapting my space to suit every theme and season, I can provide personalised experiences that set me apart as a pet and family photographer in Derby and the East Midlands.
Gaining Space by Removing Shelving
Storage has always been a challenge, and at first, I put in a lot of shelving to keep everything tidy. Turns out, it was a bit much. Two of the shelving units were taking up valuable space, so they’ve come out to open up the area even more. What’s left is now better organised and more efficient, letting me move around freely and make adjustments without feeling boxed in.
Keeping Kit Secure
With all the valuable kit I use, security isn’t an afterthought. The studio is covered by motion sensors and CCTV when not in use, and at the end of each day, all the lights, the PC, printer, and other gear are packed up and put away. It’s a bit of a daily ritual, but it keeps everything safe and sound.
Constant Tweaks and Improvements
Space is limited, so every little tweak counts. The shelving changes and ongoing efforts to streamline props and kit have kept me thinking creatively. The goal is always the same: make the space work harder, stay flexible, and keep things running as smoothly as possible.
Looking Ahead
Next up, I’m planning to incorporate more seasonal themes, experiment with prop design, and continue refining how the space is used. There’s always room for improvement, and I can’t wait to see where it goes from here.
